WTR Consulting Engineers, LLC (WTR) provided asbestos and biohazardous waste consulting and project management for the Marsh Lab Decontamination and Asbestos Abatement Project on the Montana State University campus in Bozeman, Montana. These services were necessary prior to demolition and renovation activities.
The Marsh Isolation Laboratory was designated as a Bio-safety Level 3 (BSL-3) facility. A BSL-3 Lab is defined as one suitable for work with infectious agents which may cause serious or potentially lethal diseases as a result of exposure by inhalation. The facility to be decontaminated and abated was an active, working laboratory whose work included research into the pathogenic effects of various infectious agents, most recently, the bacteria Brucella. Additional precautions were warranted both before and during the decontamination and asbestos abatement project.
